A little piece of the Book of Kells! This is a recreation of a portion of folio 285r, one of the carpet pages in the Book of Kells. This is the first painting in a series of manuscript recreations that I will be doing, over the next year or so. While making this painting, I found myself amazed that this was only a small part of the entire page...I am in awe of the ancient monks who used to do all this with only a bone stylus and a compass to lay it out!
