This is another in the series of Celtic Medallion paintings, where the images in the medallions are taken from various places in the Book of Kells. This one has an intricate spiral detail done in vermilion gouache and 22K gold leaf. The paper surface they are on is of a mottled texture with flecks of imitation gold and silver leaf within.
