All paintings too large to be shipped by mail are shipped by UPS courier, by ground and with appropriate insurance, prepaid. The shipping method is marked for each individual painting, and the shipping cost (by mail or by UPS) is included in the cost of the painting.
All UPS shipped paintings are shipped in a custom built plywood crate, with foam padding on all four sides inside the box. The painting is also paper and plastic wrapped, for added protection and for waterproofing. Since the major concern when shipping a larger piece of framed artwork is twisting or torque on the painting, which would cause the glass to fracture and shatter, the heavy duty plywood crates ensure the painting is stable within.
A brass handle is screwed to one end of the crate to facilitate carrying during transportation.
Since the crate is custom made for each painting, there may be a small delay before shipping (only up to one week) while the crate is made or prepared. It is handy to keep the crate after your painting has arrived, for future shipping purposes or in case you ever move and have to transport the painting again.
While the actual shipping charge is included in the cost of the painting, duty and customs charges the responsibility of the receiver.
