Another new piece for my solo show at the Centre Gallery (Mar-Apr 2001). Another version of what's commonly called the "Trinity Knot". Although there is no known ancient symbolism to Celtic knots (all known meanings have been made up by authors or artists in the last 150 years or so), the 3 tipped or petaled knots are commonly called Trinity Knots. Some say that they represent the Holy Trinity, or the triple gods and goddesses of the Celts. In this version I have taken 4 trinity knots and woven them together into a small interlacing knot pattern. The final design is very traditional, and may be found in places like the Book of Kells. :-)
