During the summer of 2000 I had the honor of being invited to join an archaeology dig in Co. Roscommon, Ireland. There I worked on the Ballykilcline Project with Professor Orser and his group, excavating a 19th century Irish cottage just outside of Strokestown. This is Lake Kilglass, as viewed from the steps of the Kilglass cemetery. In the foreground you can see a monument of some swan like creatures...this was a monument erected in 1999 in memory of those who died in the famine, those who survived them, and their continuing spirit. The monument stands for peace and the nurturing of spirit.
