I will be running my two day workshop in Calgary, Alberta Canada through ACAD (Alberta College of Art and Design) during their Fall/Winter 2006/2007 Continuing Ed sessions again. If you would like to sign up for the class, you can download the registration form from their site or phone them. This is a good chance to refresh your current Celtic design skills, or to try your hand at them if you've always wanted to give it a shot. :-) Download a copy of the Design courses for the Fall/Winter 2006/2007 session. The info for both classes:

    The Art of Celtic Design
Non-Credit Courses, Design Workshops, Pg 5
Fall Session, October 14 and 15 (Sat & Sun) 2006
    9:30am-4:30pm (12 hours total)
    $164.00 + GST (Canadian)
    Course Code : EXDI 016X1

Class Description : "Learn this ancient art form perfected by the Celtic people over 2000 years ago, featuring plaitwork, zoomorphics and complex spirals! Far from a "fad", Celtic art has surfaced again and again throughout history. A study of the complex and rhythmic designs can be beneficial in design, sharpening the artist's eye for balance and harmony, while deepening their vocabulary in symbolic representation. This class will cover the basic knot, complex knots and borders, freehand knotting, the trefoil and triskel, double and triple spirals, and embellishments. Uses for your Celtic artwork are endless - painting and illustration, stencils, quilting, tattoos, rubber stamps, embroidery, woodburning, carving, beading, metalwork, and more!"

    Celtic Zoomorphics
Pre-req: EXDI 016, The Art of Celtic Design I or comfortable knotwork interlace skills.
Non-Credit Courses, Design Workshops, Pg 5
Winter Session, January 20 and 21 (Sat & Sun) 2007
    9:30am-4:30pm (12 hours total)
    $164.00 + GST (Canadian)
    Course Code : EXDI 017X1

Class Description : "Expand your knowledge of Celtic design with the intricacies of zoomorphics ... the study of life, Celtic style! An overview of knotwork interlace will start the weekend, as this skill will be used to weave animals up such as birds, hounds, lions, dragons/snakes, people and plant life (such as the vine and chalice motif, and the tree of life). Learn the basics of each animal type, its specific characteristics and how to use that to create your own designs in "proper" Celtic form. Using these skills, we'll next turn to non-Celtic animals, and discover how to take unusual critters and turn them into true Celtic beasts! Knotting zoomorphics requires a comfortable understanding of knotwork interlace, as some of the old interlace rules are relaxed when applied to animals. The student should be familiar with over-and-under techniques and have a good grasp of knotwork weaving."
