The Harper's Handbook, by Laurie Riley - This book is an invaluable resource for all harp players at all levels of skill. Laurie shares a wealth of insightful knowledge gained from her extensive performing and teaching career, combined with her thorough research into harp-related injury and discomfort. In addition to practical advice, much of the material deals with what goes on inside a player, since a large part of playing music involves feelings, experiences, and attitudes. Most technical books don't discuss any of these things. It is a complete overview for understanding, learning, sharing, performing, teaching, and injury prevention. It is also a practical guide for all levels, covering such topics as Practicing Effectively, Posture, Stage Fright, Using Sound Systems, and much more. The Handbook has recently been revised and updated. Now included is all the information on prevention and correction of chronic harp-related injury which was formerly included in Laurie's popular book on that subject. The two books have been combined into one. No harper should be without this companion. Available from Afghan Press, item #[91050].
