  • Celtic Crafts

    Aon/Stencil Kingdom

      • Now my Celtic art can be used in a variety of stencil projects! I have teamed up with Stencil Kingdom, who has a huge selection of all kinds of stencils, to produce a deeper Celtic line of stencils for them. This is just an example of one, check their site to see the full collection of borders and stand alone designs, which can be purchased in multiple sizes depending on your needs.

    Aon/Future Heirlooms Quilt Designs

      • Now finally you can quilt my Celtic designs! I've teaming up with the folks over at Future Heirlooms, my new friend and experienced quilter Margo takes the artwork and translates them into great quilting patterns, with a whole lot of different suggestions and settings also provided! Each pattern developed is testing for stitching and readability by other quilters before being offered on their website. The designs shown above are just a few being developed, so stop by their website for the latest and greatest!

Symbols of the Book of Kells (18 Rubber Stamps With Ink Pad and Booklet)
      • Jim Paul, illustrated by Cari Buziak / Hardcover / Published 2002

      • Amazon Price: $13.97, Savings: $5.98 (30%)

      • As the illustrator for the Book of Kells Rubber Stamp Kit, one of the most important things we tried to do with the stamps in this kit was make sure they'd print nice and cleanly, so they wouldn't close up when stamped. I use rubber stamps myself, and it drives me nuts when you stamp a design and it becomes a big smear! So most importantly I think I can say we did a great job on the stamps themselves. You can view the stamps included here!
When my product samples arrived, I was really eager to see how the booklet turned out, as that was one part that I never got to see the progress of. The book is GORGEOUS! They used metallic gold ink not only on the book cover, but also throughout every page, and it's just lovely with the rich purple they use in partner with it. The book gives a nice introduction to the Book of Kells and it's history, and as well goes over the history behind the different types of designs and imagery you see in Celtic art. I think with the kit you'll be able to have not only a bit of info on this ever-so-cool manuscript, but also be able to do some nifty things with the stamps in your projects. One thing I get great feedback on are gift tags I make from my stamps... I use decorative paper or handmade paper, stamp the Celtic designs down in black or gold stamp ink, and then flick some more gold ink across the whole page for a sparkle effect. Usually use Winsor and Newtons gold ink and a toothbrush for the flicking. Then I cut out my gift tags using decal scissors, and punch holes in the top.. .they're so beautiful! I've sold hundreds in sets of 5 at crafts shows... they're gorgeous! I hope you enjoy our kit too! (-Cari Buziak)

Celtic Cut & Use Stencils : 61 Full-Size Stencils Printed on Durable Stencil Paper
      • C. O. Spinhoven / Paperback / Published 1992
      • Usually ships within 2-3 days
      • Amazon Price: $7.95

      • These stencils sold really well when I worked at the art store, they are on a very thick paper and come with a lot more detail than you'd think for a stencil! It does mean you have to cut out more bits and pieces (the stencils are not precut), but if you have a bit of patience or want a really complex project, then these work great! Also lots of fun to mix and match! ;-) (-Cari)

    Celtic Stencil Designs (Pictorial Archive)
      • C.O. Spinhoven / Paperback / Published 1990
      • Usually ships within 2-3 days
      • Amazon Price: $5.35, Savings: $0.60 (10%)

      • Another hot seller from the art store, like Celtic Cut & Use Stencils that I reviewed above. Lots of nice usuable images, with more detail than you would expect in a stencil. (-Cari)
      • This book comes with a wide array of designs, in solid black, so they can be cutout and used as stencils, but they could also be traced or scanned and used in computer graphics applications, scrap books, etc. The designs range from simple knots, to intricate designs taken from illuminated manuscripts like the book of Kells, and include large images (spirals, animals, human figures), repeating borders (spirals and knotwork that would look GREAT stencilled on a frame or along the edge of a table). So far I have used the designs in this book to stencil (onto blank stamp crafting postcards) Celtic boar framed in knotwork post cards, two tattoos on my husband, a few computer graphics for my website, and I've only had it for a week! Celtic Animals : Stained Glass Coloring Book
      • Mallory Pearce / Paperback / Published 1999
      • Usually ships within 2-3 days
      • Amazon Price: $4.05, Savings: $0.45 (10%)

      • These stained glass coloring books are so cool...the paper is like a semi translucent wax paper almost, with black outlines and edges. You color them with pencil crayons or markers, and if you cut them out and hang them in the window the light shines through them for a stained glass like effect! A nifty trick is to take the cut out page, and then spray it with a light coat of hair spray or artists' fixative...it sort of 'wets down' the colors after, and make sit even shinier and more transparent. (-Cari)

    Celtic Design Coloring Book
      • Ed Sibbett, Jr. / Paperback / Published 1979
      • Usually ships within 24 hours
      • Amazon Price: $2.65, Savings: $0.30 (10%)

      • This book has many very detailed and fairly accurate line drawings from the Book of Kells. Except for a bit of artistic license and correction, the images are very close to the BoK versions, so it's a wonderful way to become more familiar with the most famous of famous Celtic manuscripts. :-) (-Cari)
      • This affordable, sometimes hard to find book is an excellent resorce for designers and artisans (including tattooists) designs from the Book of Kells are rendered in thick clear black line. (-anon)

Celtic Stained Glass Coloring Book (Dover Coloring Book)
      • Courtney Davis / Paperback / Published 1993
      • Usually ships within 2-3 days
      • Amazon Price: $4.45, Savings: $0.50 (10%)

      • Another stained glass coloring book! Again, the paper is like a semi translucent wax paper, with black outlines and edges. Coloring can be done with pencil crayons or markers, and then you cut them out and hang them in the window so the light shines through them! A great trick is to take the page after you cut it out, and then spray it with a light coat of hair spray or artists' fixative...it sort of 'wets down' the colors after, and make sit even shinier and more transparent!
